Sustainable Fashion

When GMS was awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag, the eco-movement engaged with the idea of sustainable fashion.

At the beginning of this academic year, all the Year 7s attended an event in the school hall delivered by The Florence Nightingale Charity (based in Marlow).

The presentation and workshops highlighted the environmental, political and ethical impacts of the fashion industry and the sustainable shopping choices available. The students were told many facts, including the huge amount of water required to make one pair of jeans.

The charity made clear the benefits and downsides of the fashion industry, not least the downside of throw-away fashion.

The passion and enthusiasm shown by the staff of Florence Nightingale was inspirational and their enthusiasm  influenced all the students listening.

The activities were engaging and creative, allowing students to try on historical garments, and guess the clothing era from which they came. The sustainable fashion workshop was a great success.
