Yr7 Living Streets

GMS actively promotes a healthy lifestyle. One way Year 7 is actively involved is through working with a charity called Living Streets.

Living Streets work to promote the benefits of walking, both to the person walking and the environment. The students have watched a presentation on the benefits of walking and cycling to school; they have learnt how walking and cycling positively impacts health and wellbeing; it also promotes independence; helps the environment and saves money.

Importantly, the assembly launched a challenge called “Next Steps”, which ran from Tuesday 16th November until Tuesday 23rd November. Every student in Year 7 was given a ‘Challenge Card’, on which written challenges spur the students into being active. The challenges are designed to be interactive and include, creating a walking playlist to listen to on a walk, walk all or part of the way to school, persuade a family member to leave the car at home for a journey and walk instead.

The students were tasked to complete as many challenges as possible and tick them off on their challenge card. All completed challenge cards were placed in a prize draw. Living Streets have kindly donated a £50 Love2Shop voucher for the winner.

The winner is yet to be announced, as there are 70 Year 7 students and it is important all students have the opportunity to complete the challenges.

GMS thanks Mr Wison and his Year 7 team for organising and encouraging this important initiative.
