Bronze at British Schools’Judo

Ralphy, a talented judo enthusiast, was in The British Schools’ Judo Competition a few weekends ago. There he performed so well that he was awarded Bronze, a fabulous achievement considering he was the youngest participant in his group.

The competition was held at the Institute of Sporting Excellence in Sheffield. Ralphy’s result has placed GMS on the judo circuit.

The hall was busy with competitors and spectators. More than one bout took place during the competitive sessions, for there were three floor mats or ‘tatami’. The tatami are important because they provide a safe surface that absorbs impact, which reduces the risk of injury during falls and throws. The tatami’s texture also prevents slipping, allowing competitors to maintain their footing while executing techniques.
