School Health Advice Clinic

From the 16th January students in GMS will have access to a comprehensive, confidential, appointment only School Health Advice Clinic, run by the NHS School Nursing team led by a Specialist Public Health Community Nurse (SCPHN).

Students have been consulted about this and representatives have agreed that an Advice Clinic would be helpful to them. Therefore, on the  first and third Thursday of every month between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm, the Advice Clinic will run.

The SCPHN is a trained professional, who will offer confidential support, information and guidance on a wide range of health and well-being related issues: including smoking, exercise, diet, weight, depression, drugs, alcohol, bullying, anxiety and stress, anger management, relationships and sexual health. Should a student suspect pregnancy, a test may be offered, but only if appropriate. In the same way, condoms will only be offered to students if it is deemed appropriate after counselling.

GMS has initiated this service because it is important to offer young people the opportunity to receive supportive, impartial information on subjects that may concern them, and for which they sometimes find difficulty in asking for help.

Whilst this service is confidential, if there are issues which affect the student’s relationship with the school, every effort will be made to encourage them to discuss this with relevant school staff. Similarly students will be encouraged to talk to their parents or carers.

There is no doubt that this service will benefit students who need it. Should you require more information about the clinics please contact Mrs Walker (School Nurse) using the following email address: mwalker@gms.bucks.sch.uk
