Win at National Car Championships

A Year 11 GMS student, Oliver Kerr, earned national recognition at Brands Hatch last weekend by finishing 1st in the Independent Championships category; this is a truly remarkable achievement considering he has only one year’s experience of driving racing cars.

The Junior Saloon Car Championships (JSCC) is the leading car championship competition in the UK for those aged between 14 and 17. His achievement at this final race weekend at Brands Hatch, was the crowning glory for Oliver.

In addition, to earning first place in the Independent Championships, Oliver, who is just 15, came second in the Rookie category, and 9th in the overall placement in a field of 30 participants. The results show that Oliver is not phased by competing against other drivers, who are in their second or third year participating in the championship.

The Junior Saloon Car Championship is held over nine weekends in identical Citroen Saxo cars, all 30 participants have the opportunity to travel to all the key motor racing circuits in the UK. The championship is one of the most competitive series in the UK – many drivers use it as a springboard into a global racing career racing, notably in the Porsche Cup, F1 Academy or Touring Cars.

Prior to the Championships, Oliver competed in Karting at a national level, having started at the age of 10. He will now start preparing for the 2024 Championships, due to begin in April 2024, GMS wish him every success.
