Yr9 Globe Trip

On Wednesday 20th September, 67  fortunate Year 9s went on a trip to the Globe Theatre, on the South Bank in London. Central to a better understanding of theatre in drama and English studies is visiting and appreciating the workings of a live performance in a theatre setting; this is what our Year 9 students gained from the experience.

London was very busy that day, meaning the coach only just arrived in time for the GMS students and staff to go into the Globe Tour. The students were split into groups and a guide took them around the Globe, front and back of the stage. There was an audible ‘Wow’ from some students when they walked into this unique theatre: understandable, as this is a theatre like no other.  The staff were proud of the questions the students asked their guides, it showed their interest and their wish to improve their understanding.

After the tour, the students were involved in a workshop based on Macbeth: there was a warm up session followed by a session using a script from the play Macbeth. Needless-to-say the experience was hugely appreciated and the learning in-depth.

Mr Ross, Mr Chapman, Mrs Sharp, Mr Taylor, and Mrs Chenery all report that the day was an enormous success; enjoyable and educational.
