Tremendous Triathlon: Firsts and Third

On Thursday 28^th May, GMS entered a team for the County Triathlon at Stoke Mandeville Stadium. Each team had six members and they had to compete in a course that demanded 15 minutes of swimming in a relay – 16 minutes of cycling, the three members working in a relay- 15 minutes of a running relay race.

Final placings: FIRST: Year 9/10 Boys’ Team.

FIRST: Year 7/8 Girls’ Team.

THIRD: Year 9/10 Girls’ Team

Competed but out of the first three rankings: Year 7/8 Boys’ Team

Our school was competing against 14 other teams that were entered for each year group.

The swimming component involved a 15 minutes swimming relay: every swimmer completed two lengths before the next in the relay team entered the water. The cycling component had three cyclists in a team, each cyclist rode for two minutes before the next competitor took over, this continued swapping of cyclists continued until the full 16 minutes had been reached. Finally, the team relay saw each team member running 200 metres before passing the batten on.

A truly multi-disciplined sport, which we are thrilled our students have excelled in. The final rankings were worked out from the highest number of lengths, laps and watts on the bikes. (On the bikes it was the highest number of calories burnt, finding the combination of resistance and speed).

Those who were there to witness the achievement praise the commitment and stamina of the students who made a fantastic effort in pursuing their goal of achieving their ‘personal best’ and in doing so have achieved first class results for our school: they have made GMS proud.
