Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week will take place from 10th -16th May 2021. More information can be found here at Mental Health Awareness Campaigns.

The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week this year is ‘Nature’. This fabulous article explains exactly why experiencing nature is so vital to mental health:  https://wildernessredefined.com/benefits-of-being-outdoors/. Dr Lucy Russell promotes being outdoors as one of her 3 top tips in this recent article: https://theyarethefuture.co.uk/quick-wins-emotional-well-being-of-a-child/.

On the same theme, but perhaps the antithesis of “nature”, is screen time!  Another of Dr Russell’s articles explores the relationship of screen time with mental health, it makes an interesting read. https://theyarethefuture.co.uk/screen-time-children-teens/.

Finally, GMS is aware that families are under much pressure at the moment, making te self-care of parents and carers  more important than ever. Therefore, we would like to share a free resource: Parent Self-Care Guide. Please share the link with other parents or carers from other organisations, should you wish to.
