First News

The library in GMS subscribes to copies of First News every week. This week the publication has offered an online, freely accessible, copy of the publication to help parents, carers, children and schools during this time of school closure.

First News is a weekly newspaper aimed at 7 to 14-year-olds; it aims to engage young adults with the news in an easy to understand, non-threatening way.

It covers issues relevant to children and which specifically affects them. Inside is a mix of world and UK news, but also fun activities like puzzles.

News is all around us and children pick up on headline news wherever they go. But not all news is bad, this publication passionately believes there are many positive stories out there, they cover the nice news, celebrating what is good about the world.

Children, parents, carers and grandparents love the bright, colourful format and fascinating pictures that support the stories. The articles are just the right length to keep children’s attention. Plus it looks like a newspaper – this goes down really well with all! And they are independent, too!
