Safer Internet Day 11th February 2020

Safer Internet Day aims to inspire a national conversation about using technology in a responsible, respectful, critical and creative way.

Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the celebration sees hundreds of organisations become involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. Parents and carers can find online safety tips, advice and resources to help children and young people stay safe online.

For Safer Internet Day 2020 hopes to empower young people to explore identity online by opening up discussions about how the internet shapes the way that they think of themselves and others. It focuses on what creates an identity online, such as – the things we share with each other; how others perceive and interact with us; as well as how online services use the information shared to identify and profile us. This resource considers why some groups of people may feel excluded, unrepresented or unable to be themselves online, as well as offering a range of strategies to make the internet a more inclusive space for everyone.

As part of the drive to make the Internet a safer place for our students, Great Marlow School has become a member of National Online Safety. The mission to empower teachers, school staff, parents and carers with knowledge that will  keep children safe online. Our membership enables parents and carers to access free online workshops and also a download to a library of resources that will give a greater understanding of some of the digital technology young people are currently using.

The course can be taken at your own convenience and covers:

  • information about online dangers and the newest platforms
  • what online risks to be aware of and how to protect your child from them

Please find below the URL you require to enable you to register your account. You will need to fill in the details and select “I am a: Parent/Carer” from the dropdown menu. It is also available direct on our website via the parents/carers internet safety.

Once registered, you will be able to access the “Online Safety for Parents and Carers’ course and National Online Safety Resources (which includes 50+ online platform guides on the latest social media channels and games). This aims to help empower all our parents and carers with the knowledge required to protect their children from the dangers of the internet. This is particularly poignant with it being Safer Internet Day on the 11th of February 2020. Parents and carers can find online safety tips, advice and resources to help children and young people stay safe online.
