Duke of Edinburgh

The internationally recognised Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards are underway at GMS, so all participants must ensure they have submitted their volunteering, physical and skills section details to Helen Murray. Developing initiative is a key part of a participant’s involvement and they must take responsibility for the selection of their individual programme. All sections need to be approved at the completion date by an assessor for each activity. Assessors must be over 18 years old and cannot be a family member.

In order for the students to be able to attend the training and expedition weekends, the online medical/consent form must be completed. Deposits for the award have been paid and the outstanding balances are due before 3/2/2017.

Please be aware that the cost of the Duke of Edinburgh award does not guarantee the award being completed and achieved. This merely covers the cost of the administration charges and the expeditions. The time and effort must come from the students. However, GMS will endeavour to provide all students with the opportunity to complete all sections necessary to achieve their DofE award. In order to monitor and support every participant’s progress, they are required to attend an after school meeting once every half term. Meeting dates have been sent out, please make a note of these dates as it is essential that all participants attend.

The expedition company Inspired Expeditions came in to school on Friday 9th December to talk to the Bronze and Silver students about the training and expedition weekends. A guide will be sent out via ParentMail before we return to school in January.
