Success for Year 7/8 Boys’ Cricket

The Year 7 and 8 boys once again showed their superb sporting ability by winning the tightly contested District Cricket League. After playing each school in the area, Great Marlow finished joint first. This meant they qualified to play in the final against St Michaels at High Wycombe Cricket Club.
St Michaels won the toss and decided to bat. The school team must have rued this decision when, with his first ball, Matt Smithers bowled the opening batsman for a golden duck. Matt finished his over by bowling out the second opener, giving Great Marlow a fabulous start. Down at the other end, Sherco Khan dismissed two batmen in his first two overs, leaving St Michaels four wickets down for just six runs.
After this St Michaels made  a resurgence: the next partnership added 37 runs before wickets from Matt Smithers, Finn Mcindoe and Sam Shaw left St Michaels with a total of 63 from the allotted 15 overs.
Great Marlow starting their innings well with Sam Shaw and Matt Smithers combining to score 61 runs with some fantastic shots. After Matt was dismissed it was left to James Thetford to score the winning runs. He fully deserved to do this as he has had a fantastic season.
Well done boys on a fabulous season.
