G & T Dance Workshop

On Monday 8th July, the students of dance club and some of our G+T students were treated to a dance workshop by Victoria Manser. Vicki is currently finishing her second year studying Street and Commercial Dance at the prestigious Urdang Academy in London, and is an experienced performer and choreographer.

At Great Marlow School, many of our dancers are used to more contemporary and classical styles of dance so this was an opportunity for students to undertake something very different. All the students relished the challenge and really enjoyed the workshop. Vicki taught the students a very challenging routine to ‘Blurred Lines’, and was very impressed by the enthusiasm and talent of our students. In learning the routine, the students were introduced to different elements of commercial and street dance, such as popping and locking, and new ways of holding posture and placing movement, from a very skilled teacher in this field.

Thank you to all the students (and staff) who attended, and for your incredibly positive feedback, some of which can be seen below.

‘She [Vicki] got us all doing something different, it was really fun. There was a really good variety and it really challenged me.’

Tyla Whiteley, Year 8

‘It was unique for some people, as they had to change their style of dance.’

Christina Davidson, Year 8

‘In Dance Club we often do contemporary dance, but this was a different style, something we hadn’t done before. I also liked that Vicki taught to the words rather than the counts, as it showed a different approach’.

Charlotte Raddon, Year 8

‘I liked how Vicki was outgoing, fun and understood how we were.’

Shay Chamberlain, Year 8

‘Vicki was really enthusiastic. I enjoyed it because it was different. It was a really good dance because it was challenging and it gave me inspiration.’

Georgia Blois, Year 9
