Boys’ Hockey

There has been much reporting, on the website front page, about the successes of girls’ hockey at GMS. Here is a report about the success of the boys’ teams recently.

A combination of three mini matches of 7 a-side took place against local rivals Royal Grammar School (RGS) and Borlase. Each match was just 15 minutes long.

In the first round GMS played against RGS. The sides felt evenly matched as the game began, but RGS were soon playing strongly. Fortunately, there was no way of they could score because GMS had Felix Thorburn and Tom Hamelink in solid defence. Moreover, Cameron Lindsay was in goal keeper position. Two minutes later James Ashburner shoots in an amazing goal. GMS were 1-0 up. Five minutes later the game ends. GMS win 1-0.

In the second round GMS played Borlase A team. The game started well with Freddie Noel-Baker performing amazingly in right midfield position. Jozef Batterberry passed some great balls to Jevon Carter in left midfield. Sadly, despite the great play by GMS, the team unfortunately lost 2-1.

In the last match GMS were up against Borlase B team. Olly Hickley performed some great blocks in centre midfield. Alfie Corrick played some great hockey on the left wing, making some brilliant runs. This was made possible by the support of Paul Wyborn as left back. Cameron Lindsay certainly made sure that no balls were going  past him: he performed outstandingly when he made one of the best saves ever seen.

It was the best game GMS played even though the final score was 1-0 to Borlase.
