U13 Girls’ Football: Match Report

Great Marlow U13s girls’ football team played St Peter’s C of E school in their first game of the county tournament. Within the first two minutes Sophie Smyth scored from a throw that hit the keeper on the way in. In fact, this happened twice during the game.

With the game finishing at 1-0 for GMS, the girls went into their second game against Chalfonts in a strong position.

With captain Sophie Smyth holding strong at the back, the girls kept the score to 0-0, although they did have a chance to go 1-0 up when Megan Phillips had a one on one chance against the keeper. Jasmine Kisbee and Maisie Rhymer demonstrated their determination and perseverance throughout the game by man-marking their players conscientiously.

The team had a break before they played Borlase. Louise Tillier was in high spirits, having kept a clean sheet in the previous two games, she believed her team would win against Borlase.

Borlase scored in the first five minutes with a breakaway goal. Great Marlow came back quickly with Georgie Webb’s goal, which made the teams level. She skilfully tucked her shot away into the corner. However, there was a last minute goal by Borlase that sealed their position at the top of the group.

In the penultimate game against St. Michaels the girls won 2-0, both goals coming off headers from Megan Phillips.

The last game, against Dedworth Middle, saw Helen Windsor set up goals for Megan and Hope. The game also saw Sophie Smyth place a superb penalty in the bottom left-hand corner.

Player of the tournament award went to Sophie Smyth. Congratulations go to all the team.
