Wycombe Phoenix Cross Country

On Saturday 4th October, Wycombe Phoenix Harriers hosted their annual school’s cross country races at Hughenden Park in High Wycombe.

Great Marlow School had a very successful day. There were seven GMS competitors to finish in the U13 girls event, resulting in them being placed 8th on the team result table. Millie Shaw, Anna Lewis and Lara Campbell ran particularly strongly.

The U15 girls team of Helen Cooke, Siofra Bracken, Rachel Pearce and Polly Coleman performed incredibly well in deteriorating conditions, finishing 4th in the team result table.

The U13 boys team of Oliver Saunders, Joel Langford, Toby Holden and Tyler McNab also ran well. They were determined not to be outdone by the girls; they were also placed 4th in the result table. This race included an individual 4th place finish for Oliver, a mere 32 seconds behind the winner.

The U18 boys race had a sole entrant from Great Marlow, Head Boy Toby Wapshare, who was keen to return to an event he excelled in throughout his early years at the school when he was placed second. In atrocious weather, and with a less than ideal warm-up, Toby finished the 5.5km race in a time of 24:32, finishing 1st.

Many congratulations, and thanks to all of our competitors who gave up their own time to represent Great Marlow School on a cold, wet and windy Saturday morning. Thanks also go to the staff who gave of their time to organise and support the pupils who participated.
