USA International Gymnastics Championships (USA IGC)

Three pupils from GMS travelled to Orlando in Florida to compete in the international gymnastics competition there.

Hana Marie Cantrell was one of the fortunate GMS pupils to be selected, on merit, to represent the UK.

Hana was selected on her performance at the UK championship in Milton Keynes, where she showed her agility on bars, beam, floor and vault. A month later she heard she had qualified at Bronze-Diamond level.

Being in the USA was a marvellous opportunity to meet and compete with others. In the competition Hana-Marie began on the beam and finished on the bars. Her scores were impressive for her level:

• Beam: 8.650
• Floor: 9.275
• Vault: 9.500
• Bars: 8.175

Overall she was placed 11th, a truly impressive result.

Her score on the vault qualified her for the finals in that discipline. She performed so well that she bettered her score in the qualifying round attaining a massive 9.675: this put her in 1st place. Hana-Marie was duly awarded the Bronze-Diamond award for vaulting and became world champion in her age group and class.
