Winning Weekend for GMSBC

On Saturday 14th October the Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) competed at two separate events. The top boys’ squad went to London to compete in the Pairs Head, a major national event, with top crews from most major clubs in the country. Oli Peace and Jamie-Jack Westfold won their event in the Double Sculls, while Alex Hardy and Toby Lassen won the next event down in their Double. This is the first time GMSBC has won at this event, so to win two medals is very exciting indeed.

Meanwhile, the rest of the club headed west to Bath. GMSBC entered 22 crews in a mixture of singles doubles and quads: over 40 students competed, many of whom raced in more than one division.

We picked up six first places, and four second places. The Senior Girls’ Quad must be congratulated on retaining overall Head of the River for the third year in succession. Chloe Gosnell won her Year 11 single against a good field, and the Year 9 / 8 boys all competed well with the quad of Aiden Kelly, Thomas Stratton, Freddie Parr, Oliver J and Sam Chaplin being outright winners.

GMSBC remains a club that offers a significant challenge to other clubs in the country and we celebrate their success with all the rowers, their trainers and the support network that enables the contestants to travel to the events.
