Eco-Warriors & Marlow Environmental Trust

Trevor Farnfield, of Marlow Environmental Trust (MET), visited Elisa Weise, Rebecca Millward, and Lucy Millward (three of our Eco-Warriors) on 9th May: he established MET after selling a successful environmental engineering business; the proceeds from the sale of the company were reinvested into the Marlow neighbourhood, to help local schools fulfil their commitment to lower their carbon footprints.

MET has previously provided funds and advice for the Spinfield Solar Panel Project; is currently collaborating with Foxes Piece; and has kindly funded the application for Eco-Schools.

Trevor came in to discuss the school’s new initiative: to create a sustainable garden with wind turbines and future solar panels to help power our Year 11 POD. The knowledge and advice he offered were priceless. In order to achieve the best results, GMS has to chart the sun’s path. The students will begin working with the Geography Department and Science Department to collect the information needed for the next steps!

Once the students have researched the best solar panels and wind turbines for the project, they will pitch their ideas to MET to raise the funds necessary to realise their ambition for the school.

This is an exciting project, which moves GMS towards more eco-friendly living.
