x4 Impressive Wins at Avon Spring Head

GMS’s Year 9s and 10s were back in action at the weekend, racing at Saltford near Bath. Two distances were raced at this event; 1500m and 3500m. GMS decided to split the Year 9 boys into one Quad for the short course and another one racing in the Year 10 class for the long course; they came second and fourth respectively. A very good performance from both crews. In the second race, Ernie Stevens and Ben Symons raced as a Double and came an impressive second.

The Year 9 girls raced against the year above in the long division and won the Year 10 competition comfortably.

The Year 10 girls’ crew came in second in the long division race.

In the short division, Lucy Platt and Kayla Shillito rowed as a Double and won.

Our Year 10 boys raced in the Year 11 event as a Coxed Quad in the first race, then as a four (rowing as opposed to sculling) in the second. They won both events comfortably: over a minute ahead of their nearest rivals and beating many sixth-form crews in the process.
