Yr11:Bucks Skills Show 2023

GMS’s Gill Southon, Careers’ Lead, has organised an important trip to the ‘Bucks Skills Show’ for the Year 11s. This is  Buckinghamshire’s largest skills and careers’ inspiration event for young people, and is on Thursday 9th March 2023 at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, Aylesbury.
The aim of the trip is to provide students with multiple opportunities to learn from different employers about work, employment and skills that are valued in the workplace, as part of developing their career management skills.
At the event, students will have the opportunity to meet with numerous employers, spanning a broad range of sectors, to learn more about the world of work and the diversity of job roles and pathways into different jobs and professions. All stands will offer interactive activities and students will be free to choose how they use their time once at the venue and will be unsupervised. (Preparation activities will be completed in tutor time.)
For those students who are uncertain of their plans after GCSEs, further education providers will be attending to offer advice and guidance, including some companies recruiting for apprenticeships.
The plan is to leave school by coach at 9.30 am and arrive back in time for the school buses at the end of the teaching day. A packed lunch and water bottle will be required. Students will be in school uniform for the trip.
Please note that we expect students’ behaviour on the trip to reflect the high standards of behaviour and respect towards their peers and staff required whilst on the school site.
GMS asks for a voluntary contribution of £8 through WisePay, to cover the cost of the coaches. Whilst this is voluntary, we may be unable to run the trip if there are not enough contributions. Please can you also complete the MS Form on WisePay, giving your consent for the trip and providing us with other details that we need in order for your son or daughter to attend: it will not be possible for them to participate otherwise.
The deadline for payment and completion of the MS Form is Friday 27th January 2023. In order to enable us to plan and prepare the logistics of this trip, ensuring it is accessible to all students, we kindly request that this deadline is met.
