Yr9 Futures Day

GMS’s Year 9 cohort has the exciting opportunity to attend “Futures Day” with their tutors, at Buckinghamshire New University, High Wycombe. Each House has its specified day: 25th January-Hawks; 27th January-Eagles; 8th February-Kites.

This trip has the aim of raising awareness of possibilities post GCSE, A-levels and BTEC qualifications. The day has been designed to support student’s personal development in preparation for the GCSE Options’ process and to encourage curiosity about various routes into a wide range of careers, including new pathways they may not be aware of.

Students, in school uniform, register before making their way to the Redgrave Sports Centre for a bus departure at 9 am.

The university hosts have organised a range of activities that students will participate in from 9.45 am-2 pm. Topics will focus on the attributes of a good student, differing learning styles, choosing pathways to careers, student finance skills including budgeting, and courses that universities offer.

After this busy interesting day, the students return to the coaches in time to be back in school for 3 pm.

Tutors would appreciate parental support by asking that you initiate dialogue and conversation about the GCSE Options. Also, a discussion about future pathways and careers that your son or daughter may be interested in would widen their horizons.

Students are required to bring a packed lunch, bottle of water, pencil case, appropriate medication (EpiPens  and inhalers). As an option, students may wish to bring money to buy from the vending machines on campus.

GMS thanks Miss Miles and Mrs Southon for their hard work organising these days for the Year 9 cohort.
