The Year 11 students, studying Statistics at GCSE, took part in a competition following their trip to London to learn about Statistics in Banking and the role of the London Stock Exchange.
The initiative was to ‘invest’ £1000 in companies of their choice floating on the London Stock Exchange. Students learned about investment styles ie high-risk investments and the spread of investments before they made their decisions. This gave them an understanding of how statistics worked in the real world, for analysis and tracking data. They read articles on a record year for the London Stock Exchange and how this impacted their share prices. Students saw that prices were tracked every week. Also, there was a diverse range of investments including retail and aeroplane engines.
In the end, Archie Daniels made the most money with a profit of £333, he took home £20 gift voucher, 2nd place was Connor Quann, his profit was £223 and won £15 worth of gift vouchers, finally in 3rd place was Elise Whyte winning £10 worth of gift vouchers, with a profit of £137.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience for all involved and a great learning opportunity.
