Learn-to-Row: Cancelled
GMS Boat Club organisers write to confirm the long-awaited Learn to Row has, unfortunately, had to be cancelled, due to the river conditions of the Thames.
They write, ‘Sadly, due to the really poor weather, the river is in a really bad way. As laid out in the invitation, we operate our safety on the flow rate of the river and environment agency warnings. Right now both these warnings are incredibly high, and it will not recover to the level needed to safely run a beginner learn-to-row.
Therefore, we must CANCEL all four days of the learn-to-row courses. We will refund you all via WisePay upon returning to school.
However, this is not the end of Year 7 rowing, it is only the beginning!
The plan (weather and river dependent) is to offer 1 session per week to Year 7/Beginners. This will operate on alternate weeks to hopefully allow everyone an opportunity to try. We will be in touch with more details about this upon the return to school.
We hope that the spring is going to actually start showing itself soon and we will be back to warm weather, rowing on a nice calm river.
