Rowing Nov 2022

At Dorney 19th November the Alternative Fours Head took place.

Mr Murison reports. “GMS’s senior crews raced in a friendly rowing match against Windsor Boys, Borlase and St Georges College at Dorney. All squads had hoped to race at the Fours Head on the Tideway in London, but due to vast oversubscription, we did not get in.

The GMS squad was a little depleted due to illness and injury but all the crews we took had a good morning’s racing. The top Boys’ Quad came third in their final just behind Windsor and Borlase but given that on last year’s performances these are 1st and 3rd in the country, we were happy with this result.

Our J16 (Year 11 boys) were the fastest in their category and were some way ahead of the next contender. Their B boat came 2nd in their final.

Our WJ18 girls’ crew was not wholly made up of Sixth Formers: Erin Huddleston was accompanied by three Year 11s. Coming in 2nd was a pretty good performance and result.

This pre-Christmas competition has boosted the confidence of the squads and on track for a good year.”
