GB Rowing Hopefuls

It has been an exciting week for two talented Year 11 rowers in GMS  – Sal Dunn and Will Clayton. They travelled to Nottingham with Mr Murison to compete in trials for a place in the GB Team against France in two weeks’ time.
Weather-wise, the conditions were appalling, with a strong cross-head wind. The opinion of scullers and rowers alike was that conditions were so poor that the boats were nearly ‘unrowable’ and a complete ‘nightmare’ to handle. For all the young hopefuls these were unfortunate conditions in which to compete for a GB place.
It meant that the side-by-side race-offs were abandoned, leaving the time-trial as the only important deciding factor and by extension of selection to the GB Team.  Sadly, our boys just missed out on coming in first by a mere 1.5 seconds. To put this in perspective, third place was 10 seconds behind them.
GMS are hugely proud of their achievement. Their names are flagged in all the rowing reports because they are talented and dedicated competitors, we wish them every success next time.
