The students were superb and pedalled hard in every session. Early concerns of a projected midnight finish time were quashed when the Year 8 students got on the bikes and ripped into the 1000-mile target. This enabled a controlled finish of the 2000 lap/1000-mile target at 3:15pm. All students who took part were suitably exhausted at the end of their sessions, however, it was clear that they had thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Further thanks need to go to Michelle Guy, who fully embraced the project and provided a Tour De Suisse route, with relevant geographical locations for the cyclists to acknowledge. In addition to this Maths will be using the data collated from the day during subsequent maths lessons, for a mini-project. It wouldn’t be fair, whilst acknowledging maths, not to mention Phil Horler, the man, the machine, who cycled continuously for a full hour…what an inspiration!
Finally, I would like to thank the PE team, and in particular, Emily Wheelan, who have worked tirelessly to prepare and then deliver on what was a fantastic event for the school.
