U18 Girls National Indoor Hockey – Finalists

GMS congratulates, Emily, Grace, Katy, Amelie, Immy, Izzy, Zoe, Tilly, Alba, Kiera and Kesia.

A monumental win in the English Hockey National Indoor Finals was the result of hard work, dedication and resilience by GMS’s U18 Girls’ Hockey Team.

The South Central Regional Finals, which took place at Bradford College, is a prestigious event that the hockey team has taken part in before. They knew they faced tough opposition, not just from local teams like Sir William Borlase and Wycombe High School, but also from Wellington College.

To win every part of the knock-out group stages to become one of the top 8 teams in the country is a phenomenal achievement, on that the whole of the GMS community is proud to celebrate. The team is not finished yet, the England National Hockey Final is scheduled for 13th January 2022. As the GMS hockey squad prepares for this one last push, we all stand behind you urging you to success: good luck all the team and coaches.

U16 Girls Regional Indoor Finals – Runners Up

GMS congratulates, Colette, Mabel, Rachel, Helena, Sophie, Lara, Poppy, Faye, Flo, Nicole, Ash and Milly.

Never-the-less the achievement of the U16s Girls’ Hockey Team is unparalleled and the whole of GMS congratulate them on their success.

The win by the U18s was closely followed by a near win by the U16s Girls’ Hockey Team. In November they cantered to three wins out of three in the Country Tournament.

Qualifying for the South Central Regional Finals was truly fabulous. Each round of games in that competition proved a test of strength and resilience. Wins against Welligton College, St Helen’s and St Katherine’s and Sir William Borlase were all celebrated and rightly so for the team won against worthy opponents. Their only loss was to King Edwards VI (KES), who they faced in the final.

To win, the GMS team had to net nine goals: the two teams were even on points at the top of the table, but goal difference was in KES’s favour. The team managed seven goals, two short of the magic nine required. It isn’t the norm that a seven goal win ends the chance to be champions of the South Central Region, but on this occasion it did.
