Eco-Warriors/GMS Goes Green

ECO-WARRIORS AND LOCAL BUSINESSES UNITE AS GREAT MARLOW STRIVES TO GO GREEN!

After the Eco Conference, at the start of the term, GMS and local businesses joined to embrace several new projects to improve the Carbon Footprint of the school and wider community.

A greater awareness of all things environmental, undoubtedly, will make an impact. A team of Eco-Warrior volunteers, from all year groups, have embarked on their first project to rejuvenate the flower beds by the school hall: it has made an impact.

Flowerland, at Bourne End and Hillers in Marlow  have made the project a success, because they donated an extensive range of perennial plants and compost. Importantly, it was the expertise, knowledge of planning and planting that helped the students make such a success of their first project. The students have developed their skill set outside the classroom, in the newly formed Gardening Club.

Making the GMS school site beautiful to look at, while being a haven for wildlife, like bees, has lifted the spirits of staff and students alike.  Future projects are planned: bee hotels, living walls, enhanced recycling systems and a wilding project. This is an ongoing project for the whole Great Marlow School community to support.

All students, of all year groups, are welcome to the Eco-Warrior meetings held in D5 on Mondays in Break 1.

GMS particularly values the work of Miss Addy, who is central to the Eco-Warrior movement, because it is vital that environmental concerns are part and parcel of our lives to achieve a sustainable living by all of us.
