A GMS Sixth Former, Finlay Murton, just 17 years old, has won the ‘Grassroots Cricket Award’, of Buckinghamshire County Cricket Board; he was nominated by Stokenchurch Cricket Club. Excitingly, his name has been forwarded to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Every Thursday, Finlay coaches for three and half hours: he helps to coach the u9s, u12s, u14s. Most recently, he has undertaken to enthuse newly enrolled women, by coaching them expertly.
However, his volunteering time doesn’t stop there; he has umpired every game for the u12s and u14s this year: no mean feat. Even after sustaining a cricketing injury, (a fracture to the eye socket), which stopped him playing for 6 weeks this season, he continued to help and provide support to the youngsters at the club.
In the view of the cricket club and its members, Finlay has made a huge difference to their club as the numbers enrolling continue to grow at junior level.
Needless-to-say, GMS are extremely proud of Finlay’s commitment to his sport and are delighted that he has made a sporting difference to many of the Stokenchurch community
