Yr 7 Activity Days: Westhorpe Water Sports Centre, Little Marlow

Year 7 – Activity Dates for your Diary: Hawks – Wednesday 16th June, Eagles – Thursday 17th June, Kites – Friday 18th June.

The Year 7 Activity Days usually take place at the beginning of the academic year, as an opportunity for students entering Year 7 at Great Marlow School to participate in team-building activities at Westhorpe Water Sports Centre in Little Marlow. Due to restrictions imposed for most of this year on extra-curricular activities, the school was not able to offer this opportunity to Year 7s: until now.

The activity days are run by ‘Operation Encounter’ and are offered to all Year 7 students, over three separate days. Please make a note of your son/daughter’s house/date from the information above.

Students will leave Great Marlow School by coach at 9am (after registration) on the day designated for them. They will spend the day at Westhorpe, taking part in various challenges, including raft-building, crate-stacking and an assault course. Return to school will be at 3pm.

Students will not be required to wear school uniform, but will need to wear suitable clothes for the day:

  • Warm top (sweatshirt/fleece)
  • T-shirt
  • Tracksuit trousers or shorts-depending on the weather (not jeans)
  • Waterproofs
  • Old trainers
  • Wet shoes/soft-soled shoes (no wellies, flip-flops or crocs)
  • Towel
  • Sun lotion
  • Bin liner (to put wet clothes in)
  • A complete change of clothes as students may get wet
  • Packed lunch/snacks and drinks

The Activity Days are a fantastic opportunity for Year 7s to spend time together away from the school environment. Experience has shown that they help to improve communication, team and leadership skills. After a year of restrictions, students will be able to appreciate the great outdoors with their peers and enjoy participating in adventurous activities.

In order for the trip to take place, a contribution of £23 per student is required. ParentPay payments are due by Friday 11th June.  Please complete the medical/consent form and submit by Friday 4th June:

Should you have any queries, or require additional information regarding your son/daughter’s participation in this trip, please do not hesitate to contact: hmurray@gms.bucks.sch.uk

If past experience is anything to go by, all the students will enjoy their day enormously. GMS thanks the staff who have organised this, in a year unlike any before.

Miss H Murray is Extra-Curricular Coordinator and DofE Award Manager.  Miss F Tuddenham is Year 7 Director of Learning.
