Face Coverings

GMS wishes to remind our community that the Covid-19 operational guidance for schools states that, “Educational providers have a legal duty to protect people from harm. This includes taking reasonable steps to protect staff, pupils and others from coronavirus (COVID-19) within … school.” The latest guidance was updated on the 6th April and can be accessed via this link.
It is important, to prevent the spread of the virus, that all students, except those that are exempt, continue to wear a face covering in school.  The number of students who have forgotten since the beginning of the summer term is relatively small but still significant. Government guidance recommends, “that face coverings should be worn in classrooms [and] during activities unless social distancing can be maintained. This does not apply in situations where wearing a face covering would impact on the ability to take part in exercise or strenuous activity, for example in PE lessons.”

The above notification is in addition to the guidance that states, “Where pupils in Year 7 (which would be children who were aged 11 on 31 August 2020) and above are educated, we recommend that face coverings should be worn by adults and pupils when moving around the premises, outside of classrooms, such as in corridors and communal areas where social distancing cannot easily be maintained.”

The latest “Face Coverings in Schools’ guidance does indicate that “Subject to the roadmap process, as part of step 3, we expect these precautionary measures (face coverings) to no longer be recommended. This would be no earlier than 17th May and will be confirmed with one week’s notice.”

Please remind your children that a face covering is essential for the safety of all of us in school, as well as in the wider community.  Thank you.
