GMS, Borlase and RGS Race

On Saturday 12th December the three local rowing schools gathered at Longridge for another local derby. Of the five events where there was direct competition, GMS won three, by an average winning margin of around 14 seconds. We came second in the Year 11 Boys’ Quads, by far the closest race of the day: just 1.5 seconds, between first and second place.

The boat classes and crew line ups were different from last time. The seniors raced in Coxless Quads rather than Single Sculls. The results are to be celebrated: GMS Boys’ and Girls’ Quads both were fastest in their categories. There was no direct competition for Lottie McIntyre and Maddie Jones in their Double, they did beat one of the Borlase Boys’ Doubles.

In Year 11 there was a very strong field of Boys’ Quads, and ahead of time a Borlase coach mentioned that they were fielding their strongest squad, of whom they had high hopes. The result was very close: SWB won by 1.5 seconds from GMS.

In the next division, we had Year 10 crews and all the school competing had changed their line ups. In the boys event, SWB took first place, but we did beat the RGS crews convincingly. The girls resoundingly won their race.
