GMS are incredibly proud of our students, their parents and carers in this time of unprecedented lockdown. Teachers, across the subjects, report there is much to celebrate in the responses to online teaching and learning.
Yet, we all know support is welcome, especially if it is targeted to assist particular groups of people. The school has recently been contacted by a company called Schudio, who offer courses to aid parenting and caring in these extraordinary circumstances. The online programmes have specialists providing sensible, wise advice about how to help children and their guardians cope with this new way of life. The first one, Parenting in a Pandemic, sums up the issues facing all parents and carers and offers help and guidance. https://www.schudio.tv/courses/parenting-in-a-pandemic
The school are particularly mindful of the children who are making the transition from primary to secondary school, this autumn, especially as all the transition events are cancelled for the moment. The link here is informative; it covers all the main issues including making friends, being lost in a big school, coping with homework and the fear of being bullied.

Finally, all of us recognise that these challenging times are even more challenging for children who are apprehensive or find change difficult to navigate, like those with educational needs or ASD. A supportive presenter offers strategies to help children express their thoughts and feelings, which opens up conversations to unlock a child’s anxiety.

All the courses are free. All the company asks for is a name, web address and school, so logging on is not onerous. GMS hopes you find the links supportive and reassuring.
