Bags2School: Wed 4th/03/2020

Friends of Great Marlow School has organised a clothes and shoe collection with Bag2School in order to raise funds to help buy equipment for the students.

Bag2School is the UK’s leading textile recycler and fundraiser, it has worked with schools since its inception in 2001 it has paid out over £36 million.

FoGMS believes involving ourselves with this organisation will not only generate much needed funds for GMS, but it will also help the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill. A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However, it is a fact that as a nation we still send 350,000 tonnes of textiles to landfill every year.

Being involved in the Bag2School collection requires a spring clean of cupboards and wardrobes to find unwanted textiles that could be placed in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes
(please tie them together), hats, belts, handbags, towels, curtains, duvet covers, bed sheets, pillowcases and soft toys.

Please be aware the items NOT wanted by Bag2School are duvets, blankets, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs, mats, ripped or soiled clothing, school uniform with or without logo, corporate clothing or textile off cuts.

Raising awareness of recycling is important for us all, this organisation is helping to bring into focus the importance of being more conscious of what we buy, what we own, and how we deal with unwanted items. There are so many benefits to reusing and recycling.

Every child will be given a donation bag, please fill it. Should you have more items than the bag holds, please fill another bag; it will be accepted.

Grandparents, friends and neighbours can all join in this enterprise, the more collected the better for the environment and GMS funds.

Bag2School will collect from Great Marlow School on Wednesday 4th March. Collection bags will be handed
out to GMS students in form time prior to this date.

Please bring or send your bag (or bags!) to the front entrance of the Redgrave Sports Centre, or to the main school entrance before 9 am.

FoGMS will be at both locations to collect the bags from 8 am.
