Fistful of Medals

Huge congratulations to the members of the GMSBC for winning medals of all colours at the British Indoor Championships

The first competition of this academic year for GMSBC was the British Rowing Indoor Championships on Saturday 7th December. 17 students were taken to the Olympic Velodrome to compete in both the long-distance races for the various age groups, and the 500m sprint events.

Across the age groups the squad obtained 14 top twelve places and a fistful of medals. PJ O’Donovan maintained his unbeaten record with two Golds in the adaptive (PR2) categories, Emily Downing won bronze in both the time category and the 500m sprint, Leo Simpson, having come a very impressive 6th in the time piece, upped his game for the sprint to win Bronze- narrowly pushing James Robson into 4th place. In the sixth form, it was a solid performance for the two Year 13 boys and Robert Petrea beat Toby Lassen by one place. However, both were out shone by Joel Hammond in 500m where he came 9th. He will need to find a few seconds to be in the medals next year.

Further success for GMSBC took the form of last years captain of boats, Devon De Winnaar, winning Gold then Silver, in the women’s lightweight under 23 categories.

A really great start to the boat clubs season and we look forward to reporting more medals in the racing next term.

Many thanks go to Mr Murison for this report on the fabulous wins for GMSBC.
