U14 County Hockey Championship Final

In a very close U14 County Hockey Championship Final, the GMS squad played expertly, and were only defeated by last minute luck going the opponents’ way.
Three games were played in total. The first was an incredible game, played against Sir Wiliam Borlaise, where our team had 90% of possession: until just the last 2 minutes the score was 0-0. Then, against all odds, Borlaise scored.  Sadly, there was not enough time to retaliate.
Next up was a game against Stowe, who were a physically intense squad. Throughout, GMS battled hard to knock the ball into the back of then net but, although there were opportunities, luck was against the GMS team actually scoring. Never-the-less our girls succeeded in keeping the other side at bay: at the  final whistle the score was a 0-0 draw.
The final game of the day was truly rewarding. Playing against Akeley Wood, the girls played an A-class game bringing them a win of 9-0. The goals were scored by Lara A – 2; Collette F-2; Becky T- 3; Sophie A- 1; and Faye S- 1.
To qualify Borlaise had to beat Stowe and we had to have 8+ goals: the 8+ goals by GMS were achieved, but Stowe proved the better team against Borlaise, so our girls were out of the next round of the championship.
The award of MVP of the day was given to Collette F, who continues to grow into a great player, showing great resilience in each and every game.
All games played under our GMS banner are celebrated, for our teams are great ambassadors for sport at our school. Well done to all the U14 hockey players and all the coaches, who give of their time so committedly.
