Jeans for Genes Day

Amelia Jones, the Sixth Form Correspondent writes about this important day.

On Friday 20th September at Great Marlow School we held our annual Jean for Genes Day. This entails students wearing their favourite demin attire (preferably jeans) to show support for the charity. There are assemblies given all week by the Science Department, which thoroughly inform students of this cause and why we have this day.

As a school we donate to many charities but Jeans for Genes is so important. This is because many young people are affected by genetic disorders, coming from all demographics. This means that they are not always financially equipped to deal with these issues, so the money we collect does change lives.

It is also vital that the school teaches students about eye opening situations such as these, to raise awareness in the hope that as they go through life our students will continue to donate to these good causes; it’s important that we all understand what the lives of others can be like.

Year 7 were absent on the day due to a school trip, never-the-less this did not stop our school raising £1070.17 from Year 8-13, staff members included, who donated £1 in form time. Congratulations to all, as this is a figure to be proud of raising: it will be paid forward to help change young people’s lives all across the country.
