Last week a ParentMail was sent to all Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants about a change of plan regarding the training weekends. Due to the forecast of bad weather, the difficult decision to postpone the overnight camp was taken by the expedition leaders.
The training weekend will now take the form of two separate days on Saturday 16th March 10am- 4pm and Sunday 17th March 9am- 4pm.
The Bronze training days will now take place at the Redgrave Sports Centre. If possible, can students walk to and from the school site, to avoid vehicle congestion with other Sports Centre users.
The Silver training days will remain at Westhorpe. Drop-offs and pick-ups at Marlow Rugby Club.
Students will need to bring a day bag (their school bag will suffice) on both days, containing lunch, water and waterproofs (jacket and trousers). Please ensure that all Duke of Edinburgh participants are suitably dressed for cold, wet, windy weather. Warm layers, waterproof walking boots or shoes, hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers are essential. Silvers will need to bring a complete change of clothes on both days.
Participants will not need food for dinner, or any overnight items. All students have been notified on numerous occasions that mobile phones/electronic devices are not permitted on DofE Award weekends.
Students requiring medication must have their medication with them on the training days.
Please note that students are required to attend both days to receive the level of training necessary to participate in the expeditions.
Helen Murray and GMS thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
