THE GRAND FOOTBALL FINALE is on tonight, /friday 7th December: this has proved so very popular that there is great anticipation about the outcome. All are welcome to watch – the football games are due to start at 3:15 and are scheduled be over by 5 pm.
The exciting and enthusiastic end to the Year 8 Tanzania Charity Week bodes well for a hugely successful outcome. Just to remind everyone, delicious cakes are on sale TODAY; students are running on the treadmills TODAY at LUNCHTIME; WRISTBANDS are on sale TODAY during form time, they cost a minimum of a £1 per band; the more donated the more raised for our Tanzanian students.
At lunchtime there is the SPONGING of the teachers. MR MAGUIRE, MR FORD, MR PENDLEBURY and MR ROSS have all volunteered to be drenched. It is 50p per sponge: how many sponges will be hurled? GMS are hoping for a record! Finally, RAFFLE TICKETS are £1: a small price when there is the possibility of a fine bottle of Prosecco!
This update is timely reminder of the headline news resulting from the feverishly busy weeks the Year 8s have had in the run up to the Charity Week. This is a very popular annual Year 8 charity event and continues to be a success due to the hard work and commitment of students, staff, parents and carers. Mr Ross and his tutor team truly appreciate all the support they have received in the run up to the week and will receive during it.
Popular stalls selling food and drinks will include cake stalls, popcorn stall, and milk shake stall. Running for Running Water, popular in previous years, is prominent because some tutor groups opted to organise this event. Raffle tickets will be sold throughout the whole week. The highlight of the week, at least for the spectators because it involves staff being drenched, is sponge throwing.
The draft schedule for the week can be found below.
GMS wishes to acknowledge the committee members who have given their time so enthusiastically: Mav Sardie, Tia Briggs, Poppy Ungar, William Clayton, Holly Eyles, Jacob Cooper – L, Joseph Legerton, Kiya Martin, Sophie Cook, Jack Stewart -O, Johnny Green, Issy Owen, Molly Saunders, Harrison Taggart-W, Sal Dunn and Paige Welch.
Many thanks go to the staff and DoL, Mr Ross, for supporting the initiative that makes such a difference to the lives of two children, Martha and Kevin, in Tanzania. The two children GMS sponsor, Martha and Kelvin, are being given an education as a direct result of the school’s involvement and generosity. When possible, we also help with some of the other projects this small charity is involved in.
