Hampton Head and GB Rowers

Recently, the rowers of Great Marlow School Boat Club (GMSBC) competed at Hampton Head. It was an exciting weekend. Being on the water galvanises the rowers, who have practised so hard, to strive for the very best performance possible. GMS congratulates everyone who took part.

The J18 Coxless Four came second, just behind Molesey. Interestingly, the Molesey crew had three former GB squad members in their boat, so they offered seriously professional competition. Coming in second behind such a qualified crew is celebrated by GMS.

Other crews made GMS proud. The Boys’ J18 Coxed Four came 7th in their race; this is a very impressive result given half the crew were Year 11, well done to them.

The J14s, essentially the Year 9 cohort, were enrolled in the Octuple event. They came in 7th, again a very credible result given some of the strongest GMS rowers, of this age group, were unable to race this weekend. For the coaches of the GMS squad, this was an extremely encouraging outcome and bodes well for the upcoming season.

Finally, on Sunday , Oli Peace, Jamie Jack Westfold, and Devon De Winnaar, were all part of a GB training session at Caversham, ahead of the long distance trials taking place over half term: exciting times, we wish them all the very best.
