Computer Science Welcomes an Engineer from Teneo

On Thursday 1st February, the Computer Science department were delighted to welcome Matt Smith, a service engineer from Teneo in Reading.

First, he introduced himself to the Year 13 Computer Science students by providing some background about how he came to work in the industry, as well as some useful tips for entering into the industry in today’s world.

Next, he spent an hour speaking to students on a one to one basis taking questions and answering them in detail. The GMS students learnt what his role in Teneo involves and the technical topics he is required to be proficient in. The students were fascinated by his university dissertation, because it gave them an insight into what a university demands at further education level.

In the lesson for the Year 11s, he spent time talking about Computer Science as an option at sixth form level: A-levels, BTECs and apprenticeships.

Having visitors from industry has a positive impact on the students as they are in a position to offer excellent guidance on the pathways into employment. Importantly, it provides students with an inspiration to follow in that pathway.
