Sports Report Netball

Netball is one of the favourite sports at GMS. The dedication of the KS3 and KS4 students,110 or more is not swayed by inclement weather: week after week enrolled players turn out to train and play in all weather conditions. The netball group is made up of all ability levels. Positional workshops, led by Miss Russell, Miss Muttitt, Mrs Lamming and Mrs Merry, focus on particular skills, in order to improve the standard of all. Recently, there has been a focus on developing an understanding of overall game strategy, mixed with elements of fitness training. In the weeks leading up to Christmas matches are already scheduled in.

GMS are delighted with the calibre of the newest members, the Year 7s; they have made a particularly successful start to the year. The initial potential is not misplaced, the squad finished 3rd in the netball District Seeding Tournament, recently hosted at GMS. Rebecca Stevens was recognised a being one of the most valuable players in the team. As in other aspects of sport, the Year 7 team is supported by KS4 leaders, who help run events and umpire.

Both the A team and the B team, in the Year 8 squad, have won convincingly against St Michael’s. In the first league game the A team won 22-2 and B team won 16-5. The most valuable players for the above games were Chloe Blois and Annabel Megson.
