Library – Learning Resources Centre

Library and Learning Resources Centre

The library, also known as the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Great Marlow School provides information, support and equipment to all students and staff.  The centre has 50 study spaces. There are approximately 12,000 items including books, magazines, DVDs, 28 PCs and a stock of cameras, laptops and other equipment, which is available for loan by students and staff. The centre works closely with staff to ensure that its stock is appropriate to the curriculum taught in the school. You will find the LRC has information on everything from spacecraft to Shakespeare and from football to films.  The broad stock of fiction includes the following genres: science fiction, classic fiction, modern fiction, biographies, autobiographies and more.

The Accelerated Reader Programme for Years 7 and 8 is an innovative reading scheme, which utilises the resource centre’s excellent fiction stock to develop students’ reading.

The resource centre run by the librarian, and student librarians, is open before school; during breaks and lunch; and after school. A supervised homework club runs four days a week. Altogether, this is a busy and popular space that is at the centre of the school’s learning.

All students are automatically members of the library once they are enrolled as a student at Great Marlow School; they are issued with an individual login to the library system.

In their first term, all students are given an induction lesson where they learn how the library is organised and how to benefit from the resources that are stored there.

Eclipse is Great Marlow School’s online library catalogue and accompanying this resource there are lots of online E-Books & Journals available for students to make use of. All these resources can be found on our website under the ‘Student Area’ —> ‘Library Resources’ menu.
