Assertive Mentoring

Every student in Year 11 is assigned a mentor, with whom they meet with regularly.

Mentors record in the homework diary the up-to-date grades registered by a student’s teacher that month. Action points designed to help the student achieve are discussed, agreed and recorded in the diary. Mentors guide, encourage, praise and help their mentees, and address issues that are important to them.

As a part of the Assertive Mentoring initiative, the staff of Great Marlow offer additional curriculum time for extra tuition, review, or to catch-up on missed work.

These sessions run as period 6 on a Monday and on a Wednesday’s from 3.00-4.00pm. If your child travels on the school coaches, GMS provide transport, free of charge, from 4.15pm.

Every Friday morning, students are informed of the lessons they have to attend the following week. This is recorded in their homework diary. Should a student be absent from school on Friday, parents and carers should assume they are attending a period 6 and expect them home on the late bus. If a parent or carer wishes to confirm a period 6 for their child they are asked to phone the school.
