U12 Girls Hockey Competition

The year 7 girls were invited, at the last minute, to compete against private schools around Berkshire in their local tournament as a warm up to our up and coming Regional Hockey Tournament on 18th March.

In their first game of the tournament the girls faced Ibstock School, the line up started with Katie Russell, KT Windsor ©, Immy Spooner, Lottie Enderby, Nimisha Wratten, Grace Kisbee and Becky Winter (GK). Within the first 5 minutes of the game GMS went 1 nil up with a goal from Katie Russell, GMS then went onto double their lead with a goal from KT Windsor after some fantastic build up play which started from Grace Kisbee in defence. The girls won their first game 2-0 with a fantastic team performance.
Their second game saw them play Miss Haynes old school Claires Court! Lottie Enderby won a short corner and duely injected the ball to the top of the D to KT who scored from a straight strike. Unfortunately Claires Court went onto win 2-1 against GMS despite fantastic defending from Grace and Nimisha.
The third game was a very even and tough game against Holme Grange, the organising school, the game finished 0-0 and therefore GMS only went into the 3rd & 4th place play off.
With some fantastic coaching from Molly Griffiths (the U14 Hockey captain) and Flo Braybrooke the girls went in their last game against Ibstock full of confidence and determination. The game finished 0-0 which meant shuttles had to be played out, 3 of our girls would face a 1 v 1 situation in which they must score in 10 seconds against the opposition goalkeeper and our hero in goal Becky Winter would face the challenge of keeping Ibstock from scoring any of their shuttles. The shuttles started with KT scoring her shuttle and Becky Winter saving the strike from Ibstock, which put GMS in a strong position ahead of Ibstock, however it was a best of 3 scenario so next up Lottie Enderby had her shuttle. Ibstock’s goalkeeper made a great save and then their second player scored their shuttle; this left Katie Russell with the hard task of having to score her shuttle, which she did! Becky Winter then went onto save Ibstock’s third shuttle which placed GMS 3rd overall.
At the end of the day Becky Herbert (Women’S GB player) awarded KT Windsor with overall player of the whole tournament of the day and GMS also awarded Grace Kisbee with GMS player of the tournament.

A fantastic day out had by all and well done to the girls who played and coached.
