On Wednesday, 13th May, GMS were given the opportunity to take 17 of our Year 9 Pupil Premium students to Bucks New University, in High Wycombe.
The day was part of a Passport Programme designed specifically to:
The programme divided the cohort into three groups, although we shared the same classroom. The activities included a higher education quiz based on ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’. This was followed by a ‘Design Your Perfect Student’ task, which challenged the pupils to think about the qualities a successful university student has. In addition, GMS pupils were introduced to the skills required to apply to further education like how to read a prospectus. All the pupils had a tour of the campus and participated in a general question and answer session.
The tour of the campus was very impressive. The immense size (over 10,000 students) together with the range of facilities available was inspiring – particularly the music/sound recording studio, the media suite, the library, the gym and finally the student relaxation areas.
The pupils left the university having had wider opportunities about their future offered to them.
