History Made: GMS Pupil Becomes Youngest Winner of Golf Championship

The star of the Buckinghamshire Ladies County Championship show was Thalia Kirby a Year 9 GMS pupil, who at the age of 14 has made the record books by being the youngest person to ever win the championship.

Thalia fought off incredible competition from more seasoned players through the match play stages. In round one, she successfully beat a 7 handicapper. In the quarter finals on Saturday afternoon, she faced and beat a 1 handicapper from Buckinghamshire. This gave her a passport to the semi-final on Sunday. A 3 handicapper from Woburn Golf Club was Thalia’s next challenger, a solid win 3&2 gave her a place in the final. In a remarkable final, Thalia held her nerve, and with grit, concentration and determination won 4&3 to claim the title of the Buckinghamshire Ladies County Champion!

Those witnessing the game report that Thalia showed great strength, both physically and mentally to achieve this amazing feat.
