Geography Stars – Who We Are

The Geography Stars is a group run by the Geography Department, they meet every Thursday from 3pm – 4pm and work with Mrs Messenger to help raise awareness of their local and global community.

The first topic the Geography Stars investigated was crime in the local area. They took pictures and collected data about crime in Marlow. The Geography Stars increased their knowledge by speaking to teachers to find out their experiences of living and working in Marlow. They displayed their findings on the ‘Geography Stars’ board in G Block. The display in G Block will change each half term depending on the activities the Geography Stars have been involved in. They hope to raise funds and awareness of a global campaign this half term.

If you would like to join, or find out more information, about Geography Stars you can look  at the board in G Block or talk to Mrs Messenger – A12.

“I chose to be in Geography Stars as I took it for GCSE and thought it would help with my learning. Also, it is interesting to research new topics that we may not cover in class. I also like the fact that we can share what we have done in different ways. It is fun to spend time with people who have common interests as me. Furthermore, I like that we are raising awareness about problems associated with the environment and geography. Finally, we also get a chance to raise money for different charities.”

” I enjoy Geography Stars because I find it interesting to learn about geography in a different environment compared to in the classroom. I also find it fun to create presentations about different topics and charities in order to help other people understand geography. My favourite part is that we get to learn about new topics other people will not get the opportunity to experience in the school geography curriculum.”
