Prestigious Win for Great Marlow School Boat Club

On Monday 16th March, Great Marlow J15 Boys Eight raced at the Schools Head of the River. They won in their category, in fiercely competitive races. A total of 329 crews competed in the event and GMS had five boats on the river that day.

The Schools Head is a National Long Distance Championship. It is run over the 4 1/4 mile championship course, raced annually by Oxford and Cambridge.

This is first time in the club’s history that GMS have won a national title in an eight. The crew of Oliver Peace, Oliver Emmitt Bird, Jamie Jack Westfold, Carl Smith, Josh McKenzie, Alex Hardy, Ryan Argyll, Jake Cornwell and Jake Hickey have been improving rapidly over the term, steadily becoming closer to the winning podium in each race. This win reflects the enormous amount of effort they have put in as a crew.

This win follows the successful venture by the Great Marlow School Girls Eight at Gloucester the weekend before, when the top Eight won the IM3 Eights. The senior girls also won the Junior Quads. The Year 10 girls came first and second in the Coxed Quad event.
